Maximiliano Richeze is the name of last year’s sprint champion in the fourth stage in Champagne (Vaud). The 34-year-old Argentine is one of the few racers who can hold a candle to world champion Peter Sagan in the sprints.

Richeze came in second in the second stage in Baar and fourth at the final stop of the third stage in Rheinfelden. But he finally hit his stride the next day in Champagne. After a 90° curve ahead of the finish, fellow teammate Fernando Gaviria turned up the heat like no other, pushing Richeze perfectly into the sprint. The Argentine was the winner of the day. Gaviria came in second, Sagan third. Closing out the Tour de Suisse, Richeze enjoyed a victory in the points category.

Quite possible that Fernando Gaviria - who bagged four sprint victories during the Giro d'Italia - will stir things up this year. Philippe Gilbert is the likely candidate for the general classification.
