Team SKY (SKY)

The British Sky team is of the highest order – and certainly the yardstick when it comes to budgets. An additional sponsor is 21st Century Fox, which, just like British pay TV broadcaster BSkyB, is owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

The black ‘knights’ wearing the white Sky logo are always easy to spot during the race. Each racer is a champion in his own speciality: there’s Chris Froome, the seemingly stiff and permanently his bike’s stem observing Tour de France winner, who does not leave his seat even on the steepest mountain sections. Or Geraint Thomas, Olympic champion 2008 in the team pursuit and now Froome’s super-domestique. Thomas missed out on a victory in the general category by just five seconds in the Tour de Suisse 2015. He took 17th in the anniversary edition in 2016. Will he get to ride again in 2017? At the moment Wout Poels is the leader on the provisional riders list.
