Brunnen withdraws from stage start
The road between Göschenen and Andermatt will remain closed until further notice due to a rock fall and the latent danger of further falls. This section would have been part of the third stage route from Brunnen to Olivone. After intense examination of the route, it has been decided that the only feasible alternative would be to transfer the riders by bus from Brunnen to Quinto, from whence they will tackle the Gotthard Pass from the southern side via Tremola on 15 June 2015.
As far as the tour organisation was concerned, there was never any doubt that Brunnen would host a celebration of cycling with entertainment and an attractive rider sign-up point for the 19 teams, regardless of the circumstances. The organisation committee for the stage start in Brunnen, however, has sent a message to the organiser of the Tour de Suisse stating its unwillingness to hold the celebrations and rider sign-up. This was in spite of considerable efforts and concessions on the part of the Tour de Suisse organisers.
The Tour de Suisse organisers regret the Brunner organisation committee’s decision and will therefore be relocating the start logistics to Ticino. The new start location for the third stage of the Tour de Suisse will be Quinto. The Tour de Suisse organisers would like to thank those responsible in Quinto for their flexibility and helpfulness.
