Team Katusha (KAT)

With Simon Spilak, Katusha provided last year’s overall winner of the Tour de Suisse. The Slovene was only able to overtake leader Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) in the final time trial while holding off the ambitious Geraint Thomas (Sky) and Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin). Sheer excitement dominated at the finish in Bern. In the end, Spilak’s lead over Valais rider Geraint Thomas was a mere 5 seconds. Another Katusha highlight was Norwegian rider Alexander Kristoff’s sprint victory in the 7th stage from Biel to Düdingen ahead of Peter Sagan.

The Russian cycling project was developed in 2008. Team Katusha emerged from it. This was thanks to the CEOs of three major Russian companies: Sergey Chemezov of Rostec, Alexey Miller of Gazprom and Igor Makarov of ITERA.
