1st stage: Langnau i.E. - Langnau i.E.

The Tour de Suisse 2019 will begin with a short time trial in Langnau im Emmental.
The flat circuit at the Langnau i.E. starting hub promises fast times against the clock. From the very first metre, the time trial specialists will be battling for every second.
Will last year’s time trial champion Stefan Küng seize his home advantage and leave Langnau with the yellow jersey?

Langnau lies at the heart of Switzerland. With 10,000 inhabitants, it is the most important town between Bern and Lucerne. The municipality is a centre of commerce, trade and services for a region of 50,000 inhabitants. The many historic buildings in Langnau make it a unique place. Add to that the gently undulating landscape of the Emmental valley, in which the village nestles. The area is ideal for hiking or cycling – whether by road bike, mountain bike or e-bike.

Langnau is a community that is just crazy about sport. Its figurehead is the SCL Tigers, the ice-hockey club that plays in Switzerland's National League. The Sportklub Langnau and the Unihockey Tigers also have supraregional appeal. Besides that, traditional sports such as Swiss wrestling or Hornussen are also important. There are more than 100 clubs in Langnau.

Langnau has a lot to offer from a cultural viewpoint, too. You can yodel and act in amateur dramatics and even play jazz here. The international Jazz Nights take place every summer. Chüechlihus, the oldest building in the region, is home to the Regional Museum. Langnau is also famous far and wide for its markets.

Langnau is at the centre of the 1st Stage. All the important sites are located in the village centre and are within walking distance. The start of the individual time trial is on Hirschenplatz, the finish is set up on Bärenplatz. Between these two points is a pleasure mile offering various food and beverage options – and the festival area on Viehmarktplatz, providing entertainment beyond the race thanks to a colourful supporting programme. A pit stop will be set up at the Verladeplatz near the station, where fans can watch the professionals getting ready for the race. Outside the village of Langnau, spectators can follow the time trial in Zollbrück, where the cyclists complete a balloon loop in the Neumühle area.

Langnau can be reached by train without restrictions on the Bernese or Lucerne S-Bahn. Regioexpress trains also run from Berne and Lucerne, stopping in Langnau. The festival grounds are five minutes' walk from the railway station.

There are various ways of getting to Langnau by road. The town is on the road Berne-Lucerne. The nearest motorway connections are in Kirchberg (A1) and in Muri/Berne (A6). The car parks are located on the edge of the village of Langnau, the access road is signposted. The festival grounds can be reached on foot in 10 to 15 minutes.
