6th stage: Fiesch - Gommiswald
The royal stage of this year’s Tour de Suisse will see the cyclists cross the Furka Pass and Klausen Pass – two of the most renowned and challenging Alpine passes. These two hors catégorie passes will see the cyclists climb a total of more than 3,300 metres.
The royal stage is also devoted to Swiss cycling legend Ferdy Kübler: the Klausen Pass was Kübler’s local mountain and he won the mountain prize on the Furka Pass in 1947.
Don’t be surprised if the winner in Gommiswald is part of a small breakaway group.
Fiesch - The gateway to Goms
The village of Fiesch lies on the banks of the Weisswasser river, whose source is the Fiesch glacier. Even before the 19th century, Fiesch saw considerable tourism thanks to the panorama of the Eggishorn, the Märjelensee lake and the nearby Jungfrau region. As the touristic centre of the surrounding valleys, Fiesch has always exerted a great attraction on sportsmen and mountain lovers.
The Aletsch Arena is an ideal setting for active and spontaneous holidays. The many sporting experiences on offer are a delight to connoisseurs and a challenge to experts, whether you're staying on the car-free sunny plateau or in the valley.
The good connections to the region’s transport infrastructure ensure a seamless transition to your holiday destination.
From the summit at 2,927 metres above sea level, the Eggishorn offers a tremendous 360° panorama, with views over the entire length of the Aletsch Glacier, the smaller Fiescher Glacier and the mighty peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and Matterhorn.
This spectacular vantage point is just a 20-minute journey from Fiesch. The change at Fiescheralp station is easy and barrier-free, meaning the Eggishorn is wheelchair-accessible and suitable for prams and buggies.
To see the riders and the teams at close quarters, fans are advised to pay a visit to the starting area. There will be a cafeteria service as well as a children’s programme. “Charly’s Ländlerfreunde” will provide musical entertainment at the festival site. Spectators who prefer to marvel at the riders while they’re on the move can do so in Obergoms or even on the Furka Pass, though we recommend that you arrive there early.
After the stage begins, you can follow the riders live on the big screen at the World Cup Arena in Fiesch. This will be followed at 5pm by the opening match of the 2018 football World Cup.
Excursion tip: We recommend an excursion to our Eggishorn view point, which offers an exceptional view of the Great Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding mountain landscape. All information at: aletscharena.ch
The starting area and festival site are located at the Aletsch Bahnen AG parking lot in Fiesch. Due to the limited number of parking spaces available, we recommend that you travel to Fiesch via public transport (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, PostBus). The walk from Fiesch railway station to the starting area takes around 10 minutes.
There are no official parking spaces available for visitors. All parking spaces are reserved for the Tour de Suisse crew.
The section of road between Hotel Kristall and the roundabout to exit Fiesch (in the direction of Oberwald) will be closed between 7am and 1pm.
The access road to the Aletsch Bahnen AG parking lot in Fiesch will be closed between 6pm on Wednesday, 13 June 2018 and around 1pm on Thursday, 14 June 2018.
The cantonal roads between Fiesch and Fieschertal will be open.

Embedded in a gentle, hilly landscape on the southern slope of the Ricken Pass high above the Linth area, Gommiswald offers the most beautiful residential locations, with a magnificent view of the Lake of Zürich, the Linth Plain and the alps of Glarus.
Since the 1st of January 2013, the municipalities of Ernetschwil, Gommiswald and Rieden have been merged to form the new municipality of Gommiswald which also includes the districts of Uetliburg, Gebertingen and Ricken. The local population also consider the vicinity of the agglomerations of Zürich, St. Gallen and Rapperswil-Jona as very convenient.
Gommiswald is well developed and offers intact infrastructures as well as complete school opportunities from Kindergarden to upper school.
Gommiswald enthuses its visitors at any time of the year through its scenic diversity. Left in its natural finish, this local recreation area by the Ricken offers a diversified network of hiking trails and biking tracks. The agriculturally cultivated alps with their wide woodland areas are the sporting and recreation paradise of the local community. On the Ricken, cross-country skiing trails, a ski lift at Bildhus as well as a toboggan run invite you to enjoy the snow. Gommiswald is also very proud of its open air swimming pool.
