Lucinda Brand wins the first stage of the Tour de Suisse Women in a sprint. The Dutchwoman kept the upper hand against Clara Koppenberg and Paulina Rooijakkers.
The first stage of the Tour de Suisse Women started at 7.30 pm. In a break from tradition the tour kicked off with a circuit race. The first two laps were a testing phase for the cyclists. Afterwards, the pace increased and the first attacks got underway. In lap three a trio made a break. This breakaway included Lucinda Brand, Clara Koppenberg and Paulina Rooijakkers. The trio worked in perfect harmony, while the peloton could not come together to chase down their lead. The gap increased to more than a minute before the peloton reacted. With one kilometre to go, there was no more harmony at the front. The three riders began to attack each other. Lucinda Brand won the sprint to the line in a commanding manner.

Following the criterium the Tour de Suisse Women moves rapidly on to the next stage. On Sunday the Individual Time Trial around Vaduz awaits the riders. The route is the same as the mens’ stage later in the day. The profile is undemanding. The real time trial specialists will therefore decide the victory in the end.
