The Tour de Suisse 2020 ends with an alpine fireworks display on the weekend of decision making in the Disentis/Sedrun and Andermatt region.
InfrontRingier AG, the Tour de Suisse organiser, is delighted to bring the 2020 National Tour to the Disentis/Sedrun (GR) and Andermatt (UR) regions for the final weekend.
“The fact that we are able to end the country tour in a region with world-famous Alpine passes not only increases the sporting challenge, but also causes a sensation – not only in Switzerland, thanks to the unique backdrop.” is the conviction of David Loosli, member of the TdS management.
“Uri is very pleased to be able to welcome the biggest sports event in Switzerland as a guest. As an important pass country with many breathtaking mountain routes, Uri offers cycling an attractive platform. In return, our new tourist hotspot Andermatt benefits very much from the radiance of the Tour de Suisse”, adds Beat Jörg, member of the government of the canton of Uri.
The high alpine region of Andermatt/Sedrun, surrounded by impressive alpine passes, offers the best conditions for a challenging route choice for stages at a top sporting level.
The arrival in Sedrun is planned for Friday (12 June). Followed by a time trial on Saturday (13 June) and the Alpine Circuit as the crowning finale for the Tour de Suisse 2020 on Sunday (14 June).
The mountain time trial on Saturday from Disentis over the Oberalp pass to Andermatt symbolically connects the two cantons Grisons and Uri, which are closely connected in the region.
“The cooperation between two cantons was successful in winter with the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis ski area link. Now we can consider ourselves fortunate to be able to offer our guests a joint highlight in summer that extends beyond the cantonal borders,” emphasises Simona Barmettler, Director of Sedrun Disentis Tourism.
The royal stage on Sunday then leads over the triumvirate of Furka-Grimsel-Susten. This in the opposite direction to the 2019 royal stage. The crowning final ascent in 2020 to the destination leads through the legendary Schöllenen Gorge to Andermatt.
One can already assume that the Tour de Suisse 2020 will remain exciting and open until the last day.
Cross-cantonal tourism region
For the tourism region, the staging of the Tour de Suisse is also an important element in positioning itself as an ideal destination for cyclists of all kinds.
“Sedrun Disentis, as host, is pleased to welcome the country tour to our region. The destination reflects the appropriate target groups and infrastructure – with two adjacent passes and the unique mountain landscape – which is also embodied by the Tour de Suisse.
As a highlight, the drivers and spectators can enjoy the unique experience along the Rhine”. says Simona Barmettler, director of Sedrun Disentis Tourism.
The conclusion of the Tour de Suisse 2020 will traditionally feature a wide variety of attractions. In addition to the highlight with three exciting stages of the pros enjoy every year the
TdS Bike-Expo and the TdS Kids World very popular. The cycling family can expect an exciting and varied weekend in the midst of a magnificent mountain scenery.
“Andermatt will experience a great sporting festival. When we think of internationally successful cycling greats from Uri such as Bruno Risi, Kurt Betschart or the Zberg brothers, then I am almost tempted to say with a view to the Tour de Suisse final in Uri: cycling is returning home”. the government councillor Beat Jörg is convinced.
