The Tour de Suisse expands the TdS Women to a true stage race.

With the starting signal by Federal Councillor and Sports Minister Viola Amherd, the Tour de Suisse Women celebrated its long-awaited premiere this year in Frauenfeld. The first female edition of the national tour shone with an internationally renowned field of female cyclists, exciting races and a Swiss stage victory by Elise Chabbey.

“The reactions of the teams, the public and the media to the premiere of the women’s race showed that we are on the right track. We want to take this positive momentum with us and develop the TdS Women into a true stage race,” says Olivier Senn, Director of the Tour de Suisse.

The second edition of the TdS Women will be held from 18 – 21 June as a race in the “UCI Pro Series” category and, in addition to impressive road stages, will also include an individual time trial.

The international successes of Swiss road professionals Marlen Reusser and Elise Chabbey, as well as the Olympic mountain bike medal trio of Jolanda Neff, Sina Frei and Linda Indergand (who all competed in the TdS Women) have shown this summer how solidly women’s cycling has developed in this country and internationally.

Olivier Senn: “Our goal is to establish the Tour de Suisse Women as a focal point in international women’s cycling in the longer term. We are confident that we are making an investment in the future here and now.”

So let’s look forward to 4 exciting and thrilling races for the overall victory of the 2nd edition of the TdS Women.
