Yesterday Thursday Ferdy Kübler died at the age of 97.

With Ferdy Kübler a great Swiss cyclist and a true cycling legend is leaving the stage of life. The cyclist from Adliswil (ZH) won the Tour de Suisse three times: in 1942, 1948 and 1951. Until last year he held the record of stage victories at the Tour de Suisse with eleven stage wins together with Hugo Koblet.

But it was not only at the Tour de Suisse that Kübler came up trumps. Kübler took a total of five stage victories in the Tour de France and in 1950 became the first Swiss to win the overall title. Since then only Hugo Koblet succeeded in doing so in 1951. In return Kübler was celebrated as the Road World Champion in 1951. He also won the Tour de Romandie twice (1948, 1951) and the classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège twice (1951, 1952). In Switzerland, Ferdy Kübler was affectionately called “Ferdy National”.

Our thoughts are with Ferdy Kübler’s family and friends.
