An attack 12 km before the end of stage 2 in Langnau im Emmental broke Luis Leon Sanchez (ESP/AST) to victory.
An attack 12 km before the end of the second stage in Langnau in the Emmental gave Luis Leon Sanchez (ESP/AST) his third stage win in the Tour de Suisse. Kasper Asgreen (DEN/DQT) snatched the leader jersey from Rohan Dennis (AUS/MTB).
After two days, Asgreen and Peter Sagan (SVK/BOH) had the same total time. According to UCI regulations, in such a case the hundredths of a second from the time trial are used to determine the leader. Here’s the verdict: Asgreen 0.84, Sagan 0.93.
For Asgreen (24) it is the first leader jersey of his career in a World Tour race. For the 3rd stage on Monday, Flamatt – Murten, his team relies on the sprinter Elia Viviani (ITA) and at the same time on being able to keep the opposing end fast professionals under control.
Team Astana had pursued the same project, which made a strong showing in the final phase of the second leg. At Schallenberg Omar Fraile tried his luck. After the last descent from Chuderhüsi, the experienced Luis Leon Sanchez (36) caught his luck when a merger took place at the top. “We had agreed within the team that it would be about outwitting the sprinters in the end,” said Sanchez, former multiple time trial champion of Spain, describing the basis of his day’s success.
The big hero of the day was Claudio Imhof from the Swiss national team. After a first futile attempt, Imhof did not get up, but attacked again. The former rail specialist covered a total of 114 km at the top, 105 km of which was solo. In the meantime Imhof was the theoretical leader, but it was foreseeable that he would not be able to bring his lead to the finish. At least Imhof was allowed to wear the jersey of the Bergpreis King.
