The Tour de Suisse 2019 begins with a cycling festival on the starting weekend in Langnau im Emmental.

InfrontRingier AG, the Tour de Suisse organiser, is delighted that the 2019 Tour of Switzerland will start with two stages in Langnau im Emmental.
In its function as the hub of the Emmental, Langnau has an excellent infrastructure for an attractive starting weekend with a wide range of attractions.
The Tour de Suisse 2019 will traditionally begin on Friday evening with the team presentation. In addition to the two professional races on Saturday and Sunday, two stages of the TdS-Challenge, the amateur race for everyone, will be held on the original track in Langnau. The TdS Bike-Expo and the TdS Kids-World also enjoy great popularity every year.

“I am very pleased to start the Tour de Suisse 2019 with a big Langnau cycling festival. The tradition of the Tour de Suisse fits in very well with the traditions in the Emmental and we are convinced that our TV pictures will put this beautiful region in the best picture of the international cycling world”. Olivier Senn, Director General of TdS, was quoted at the signing of the contract.

Indeed, the landscape around the centre of the Upper Emmental with its iconic hills promises a varied and challenging choice of routes for stages at a top sporting level.

In addition, the Emmentaler has already gained experience as organisers of a tour kick-off in 2008. The hilly starting stage is not only a fond memory of the current Tour de Suisse sporting director David Loosli – David Loosli won the first two mountain classifications back then – but also of the region’s cycling enthusiasts.

“Even today people still talk about the cycling festival ten years ago.” enthuses OC President Marius Reist. Together with his team from the IG-Radsport Region Emmental, he is delighted to be able to organise the start of the Tour de Suisse in Langnau again after 2008: “The enthusiasm in the region is still great. The upper Emmental with its gentle hilly landscape is ideal for cycling anyway. The municipality of Langnau is also behind the event. It is attractive for the village if, in addition to the ice hockey games of the SCL Tigers, a major event such as the Tour de Suisse is also a guest.

So let us look forward to an attractive starting weekend full of passion in 2019 in the heart of the Emmental.
