Tissot makes its comeback as official timekeeper of the Tour de Suisse this year

Tissot and cycling

The history of Tissot begins in 1853 in the Swiss watchmaking town of Le Locle. Still based in Le Locle today, the company is the largest traditional Swiss watch brand in terms of volume and is represented on five continents. The close relationship between Tissot and the dynamic world of sport has existed since the very beginning of the company. The final entry into sports timekeeping came in 1938 – Tissot became one of the playmakers at various championships. Cycling is one of the sports in which Tissot has always been most involved. The company has been working with various cycling events for 50 years. The brand was already the official timekeeper of the Tour de France from 1988 to 1992 and has taken up this role again since 2016. The watch manufacturer is proud of its Swiss roots and consequently expanded its commitment to the sport by merging with the UCI in 1995. Since then, Tissot has been the official timekeeper at road, trail, mountain bike and BMX cycling world championships, world cup time trial races and the mountain bike world championships. It was of course a point of honour for Tissot to become an official partner of the tour in its own country.

François Thiébaud, President of Tissot, made the following comments: “The resumption of the partnership between Tissot and the Tour de Suisse is the completion of our company’s extensive commitment to cycling and complements our existing commitments to the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de France. As Tissot is a Swiss brand, it was obvious to renew this collaboration in order to strengthen our roots”.

Olivier Senn confirms: “We are delighted to have such an experienced and reliable partner at our side in Tissot. In addition to the long Swiss tradition, we share a fascination and passion for cycling”. Olivier Senn, CEO of the Tour de Suisse.

A special watch for the Tour de Suisse

Tissot is pleased to celebrate this partnership with the launch of a new watch, the T-Race Cycling Special Edition Tour de Suisse. This extremely popular sport is linked to the Tissot T-Race Cycling collection, which recognises endurance and speed sports. Passionate sportsmen and professionals as well as enthusiastic amateurs will equally appreciate this watch, which captivates in a chic and stylish homage through typical bicycle elements.

The appearance of the watch is very clearly based on a bicycle. Each component picks up on a different feature: from the wheel fork in the frame – in the bracelet and the strap lugs – the wheel seated on a carbon ring – in the dial surround and the speedometer bezel – to the brake levers – integrated into the pushers – and the chain ring – in the case back and crown. The back of the bracelet is also reminiscent of a bicycle chain. Even if you are on the move, you can read the time quickly and easily thanks to the large hands and the straight and clear dial.
