Swiss Cycling can now participate in the Tour de Suisse with the National Road Team.
Next year, the Swiss National Tour will be the Tour des Suisses for seven riders in national jerseys. They will compete alongside the established riders of the renowned World Tour teams. A change in the rules, which was decided by the UCI during the Road World Championships, makes this innovation possible.
David Loosli, Sport Director of the Tour de Suisse: “This is very good news. The Tour de Suisse will thus become a showcase for young athletes who have not yet gained a foothold in a top team. I am particularly pleased that we can offer the young cracks a dream course with a stage finish on the Gotthard Pass for this premiere”.
Such opportunities for roundtrip experiences in the top league are usually only available to young professionals on a wild card if they are signed up with a pro-continental or continental team. National Road Coach Danilo Hondo is looking forward to the new highlight in the annual calendar: “For us it is extremely valuable that we can offer our young athletes the opportunity to compete at this beautiful race at the highest level”.
