A celebration of cycling at the foot of three Alpine passes in Goms
Before the start of this year’s queen stage from Fiesch over the Furka and Klausen passes to Gommiswald, the contract was signed between the municipality and tourism officials from the host region and the organiser of the Tour de Suisse, InfrontRingier AG. Today, Goms will simply be passed through – next year the region will be a key focal point, hosting the start and finish of two stages.
Crowning finish with the queen stage
InfrontRingier AG, the organiser of the Tour de Suisse, is delighted that the tour will once again stop in the cycling Mecca of Goms for the first time since 2007. The finale of the Tour de Suisse 2019 will be filled with a huge variety of attractions as usual. In addition to the highlight of two professional stages on Saturday and Sunday, a stage of the TdS Challenge – the amateur race open to everyone – will take place on the original course in Goms. The TdS Bike Expo and the TdS Kids World are also sure to continue their enduring popularity. Cycling enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting and varied weekend, whether cheering from the sidelines or in the saddle themselves in the midst of the spectacular mountain scenery.
«We are excited about this special closing hub, which combines all the elements of the Tour de Suisse in a central location. Ending the tour in a region with world-renowned Alpine passes is sure to increase the level of media attention, and not only in Switzerland», says TdS General Director Olivier Senn.
The alpine municipalities of Goms and Obergoms, surrounded by three impressive Alpine passes, offer the ideal conditions for a challenging choice of route for stages at the highest level of sport. A time trial is planned for the Saturday, with an Alpine circuit as the crowning finish of the Tour de Suisse 2019. It is already safe to assume that the Tour de Suisse 2019 will remain exciting, the winners undecided, right up until the final day.
The Tour de Suisse will help promote the region
The Goms organising committee and service providers are ready for the challenge.
«This kind of event brings a lot of value creation into the valley and brings people together», says Monika Holzegger, Chair of the Board of Obergoms Tourismus AG. «Even the around 2,000 overnight stays from the tour entourage alone offer added value.»
As a tourist region, hosting the Tour de Suisse is also an important element in its positioning as an ideal destination for cyclists – whether for racing or leisure cycling, traditional or e-bikes. Goms proved its competence in organising major events when it hosted the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships last winter. The same spark will also be present in June 2019 – ensuring an impressive celebration among friends.
The Tour de Suisse 2019 will take place from the 15. to the 23. June 2019; starting in Langnau i.E., ending in Goms.
