Arlesheim and Münchenstein: stage locations for the Tour de Suisse 2019
InfrontRingier AG, the organiser of the Tour de Suisse, is delighted that the 2019 tour will have a stage finish in Arlesheim on Tuesday 18th June, 2019.
«We’re very pleased to be returning to the Basel region – we have very fond memories of it», said Kurt Betschart, Technical Director of the TdS, at the contract signing.
Arlesheim, a municipality on the Birs river in the Basel region, already played host to a Tour de Suisse stage finish in 2006.
The region at the foot of the Jura Mountains is full of cycling enthusiasts and is an ideal starting point for various cycling experiences.
«Even today, people still remember the 2006 Tour de Suisse finish in Arlesheim. The municipality celebrated a first-class cycling event in perfect weather. Schoolchildren held a mobility day, and there were plenty of side events alongside the professional contest – it was a real celebration!» remembers Marc Rüdisühli of IG Radsport Northwest Switzerland and the Bikefestival Basel organising committee.
There will be more than just a stage finish in 2019, however. The following day Wednesday 19th June, the Tour de Suisse entourage will start in the neighbouring municipality of Münchenstein.
Münchenstein is home to the TdS premium partner and jersey sponsor Primeo Energie, formerly EBM.
Primeo Energie is not only bringing the tour to the Basel suburb, it will also host the stage start on its own company premises. In addition to this, the team buses and rider’s registration will also be housed on the Primeo Energie site.
«Starting the day’s cycling on the company site is a wonderful symbol of Primeo Energie’s dedication to and passion for cycling and our national tour. Together, we will bring this celebration of cycling to their employees and the municipality», emphasised Kurt Betschart at the on-site signing.
With the organising committee from IG Radsport Northwest Switzerland, there is sure to be plenty of experience and expertise on hand. IG Radsport also organises the annual Bikefestival Basel on the first weekend in September.
«We are looking forward to collaborating with a familiar and seasoned organising committee. The committee, led by Marc Rüdisühli and Christoph Jenzer from IG Radsport, is very experienced and perfectly suited to hosting a starting and finishing location», says InfrontRingier AG’s Kurt Betschart.
