On 8 June 2020, the tour of the country starts at Europe’s largest waterfall.

“Neuhausen am Rheinfall is pleased to welcome the Tour de Suisse retinue in the centre of the village.” says Christian Di Ronco, councillor of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and OC president.
It is the first time that Neuhausen am Rheinfall (SH) will be a stage stop on the state tour.
Until now, the Tour de Suisse has only passed through the village, the last time in 2011, on the second-last stage; when the field of riders shot down to the Rhine Falls basin at spectacular speed.

“Compared to 2011, the cycling world elite will pass the Rhine Falls on the start lap from the opposite direction. This means that the cyclists on the start lap have the impressive backdrop of the Rhine Falls directly in front of them. The start lap brings the international field of cyclists past the spectators twice. In addition, the steep climb past the Rhine Falls will stretch the field of riders. This will be very attractive for the spectators”, David Loosli, Sports Director of TdS, is convinced.
From the Rhine Falls, the second stage leads to Lachen at the upper end of Lake Zurich.

Many cyclists are familiar with Neuhausen am Rheinfall, as the prologue of the world’s largest ultra-cycling event, the Tortour, has started at the Rhine Falls basin over the past 11 years.

“The Tour de Suisse continues to have a great appeal for generations. Who didn’t stand at the side of the road as a child, and later again with their own children, when the Tour troop passed through the village,” recalls Christian Di Ronco.
The timing for New Home couldn’t have been better. For two years now, the SIG site has offered the ideal conditions for the start of the stage with an arena feeling in the heart of Neuhausen am Rheinfall. The Industrieplatz and the adjoining SIG site can look back on more than 160 years of industrial history.

“The area has been in a state of flux for two years now, new living space has been created and complements the numerous companies with their many jobs. So it also fits in with the concept of opening the site that we are pleased to welcome the Tour de Suisse to the SIG site for the start of the second stage. Cycling is a very dynamic sport and a good symbol of the dynamics that the SIG site is experiencing through its development,” emphasizes Michel Rubli, CEO of the SIG Charitable Foundation.

So let us look forward to an unforgettable start at the Rhine Falls in Neuhausen.
