The closing weekend 2020 will cross cantons

The Tour de Suisse 2020 will end with a real Alpine highlight on the deciding weekend in the Disentis/Sedrun and Andermatt region.

InfrontRingier AG, the organiser of the Tour de Suisse, is delighted that the 2020 tour’s closing weekend will be in the Disentis/Sedrun (Grisons) and Andermatt (Uri) region.
«The fact that we can end the tour in a region with world-renowned Alpine passes not only increases the athletic challenge – the unique backdrop will also ensure plenty of attention, even further afield than Switzerland»,says David Loosli, one of the TdS directors.

«Uri is very much looking forward to hosting Switzerland’s biggest sporting event. As a region with plenty of well-known passes and breathtaking mountain routes, Uri offers an attractive platform for cycling. Our new tourist hotspot Andermatt, meanwhile, will benefit greatly from the profile of the Tour de Suisse», explains Beat Jörg, member of the Cantonal Council of Uri.

The Alpine region of Andermatt/Sedrun, surrounded by impressive Alpine passes, offers the ideal conditions for a challenging choice of route for stages at the highest level of sport.
Sedrun is scheduled to host the stage finish on the Friday (12 June). This will be followed by a time trial on Saturday (13 June) and the Alpine circuit as the crowning finish of the Tour de Suisse 2020on Sunday (14 June).

The mountain time trial on Saturday, which will head from Disentis over the Oberalp Pass to Andermatt, provides a symbolic link between the cantons of Grisons and Uri, which are closely interlinked in the region.
«We enjoyed a successful collaboration between the two cantons in winter with the merger of the Andermatt, Sedrun and Disentis ski resorts. We’re now fortunate enough to be able to offer visitors a joint highlight in summer too, stretching beyond each canton’s borders», says Simona Barmettler, Director of Sedrun Disentis Tourism.

The queen stage on Sunday will lead over the trio of Furka, Grimsel and Susten, in the opposite direction to the 2019 queen stage. The crowning final climb in 2020 to the finish will lead through the legendary Schöllenen Gorge to Andermatt.
It is already safe to assume that the Tour de Suisse2020 will remain exciting, the winners undecided, right up until the finalday.

Cross-cantonal tourism region
For the tourism region, hosting the Tour de Suisse is also an important element in the area’s positioning as the perfect destination for all kinds of cyclists.

«Sedrun Disentis is delighted to be hosting the tour in our region. As a tourism destination, it reflects the same target groups and infrastructure – with two neighbouring passes and the unique mountain landscape – that the Tour de Suisse embodies.
The highlight for both riders and spectators will be the unique route along the Rhine», says Barmettler.

The finale of the Tour de Suisse 2020 will be filled with a huge variety of attractions as usual. Alongside the highlight of three exciting professional stages, the TdS Bike Expo and the TdS Kids World are also sure to continue their enduring popularity. Cyclists can look forward to an exciting and varied weekend, surrounding by breathtaking mountain scenery.

«Andermatt will experience a major celebration of cycling. And when you think of successful Uri-born cycling legends like Bruno Risi, Kurt Betschart or the Zberg brothers, I’m almost tempted to say of the Tour de Suisse finale in Uri: cycling is coming home», says Cantonal Councillor Beat Jörg.
