Tour de Suisse 2019: Take-off in Langnau i.E.
InfrontRingier AG, the organiser of the Tour de Suisse, is delighted that the 2019 tour will begin with two stages in Langnau im Emmental.
As the main urban hub in Emmental, Langnau possesses excellent infrastructure for a great starting weekend with a range of attractions.
In keeping with tradition, the Tour de Suisse 2019 will begin with the team presentation on the Friday evening. In addition to the two professional races on Saturday and Sunday, the TdS Challenge – the amateur race open to everyone – will take place on the original course in Langnau. The TdS Bike Expo and the TdS Kids World are also sure to continue their enduring popularity.
"I’m delighted that the Tour de Suisse 2019 will begin with a huge celebration of cycling in Langnau. The Tour de Suisse tradition aligns perfectly with the traditions of Emmental, and we are sure that the TV images of the event will show off this beautiful region to the international world of cycling", said TdS General Director Olivier Senn at the contract signing.
The landscape around the centre of upper Emmental, with its iconic hills, promises varied and challenging route options for stages at the highest level of sport.
The locals can also count on their previous experience organising a tour start in 2008. It’s not only the current sporting director of the Tour de Suisse David Loosli who has fond memories of the hilly starting stage – he claimed the first two mountain classifications that year – but also local cycling fans.
"Even today, people still talk about that cycling event from ten years ago", says Marius Reist, president of the organising committee. Together with his team from IG-Radsport Region Emmental, he is looking forward to once again hosting the start of the Tour de Suisse: "There is still a huge amount of enthusiasm in the region. Its gentle hills make upper Emmental ideal for cycling. The Langnau community also supports the event. Alongside the SCL Tigers ice hockey games, it’s very appealing for the village to host a large event such as the Tour de Suisse."
We are looking forward to a great starting weekend full of enthusiasm in the heart of Emmental in 2019.
