More Press Release

The finishing hub in Bellinzona promises a great cycling celebration

The second TdS weekend on 16 and 17 June 2018 will take place south of St. Gotthard. Bellinzona – which last hosted the starting weekend in 2014 – will organise the Tour de Suisse grand finale.

People in Ticino have a particular talent when it comes to a creating a successful mix of cycling and cultural festivals, as has been proven by the various stage organisers in recent years. This is all the more reason for the Tour de Suisse organiser InfrontRingier to celebrate that Bellinzona, a long-standing stage location, will organise the first closing weekend to be held in Ticino. The Tour de Suisse can count on many years of Ticino cycling expertise. Bellinzona last organised the Tour de Suisse starting weekend in 2014, and the tour has stopped 21 times in Bellinzona overall.

Bellinzona is planning a huge festival of cycling and culture for this event. Last spring, 13 municipalities merged with the city of Bellinzona. It now has 42,000 inhabitants, and with its attractive economic position directly on the NRLA, it is the most important focal point in the north of the canton. As the organiser of the two closing stages of the Tour de Suisse, Bellinzona would like to make its ambitious city well-known not only throughout Switzerland, but also internationally.

Bike Expo and attractions

In the centre of the old town, on the Piazza del Sole, the TdS village will encourage visitors to stroll around and explore. National and international exhibitors will once again show their latest products as part of the Bike Expo, and the Kids World will offer children the chance to test their skills on various cycling courses over the two days.

Overall route now known for the Tour de Suisse 2018

With the announcement of Bellinzona as the finishing hub, InfrontRingier has finally clarified the whole 2018 route. The specific course details will only be announced at the end of February 2018, but the stage locations and their sequence is now fixed.
