Neuhausen am Rheinfall: The village above the largest waterfall in Europe has over 10,500 inhabitants and looks back on a great industrial history and touristic past. Two factors contributed decisively to the industrial and touristic development of Neuhausen am Rheinfall; on one hand the connection to the railway network in the middle of the 19th century, on the other hand the natural spectacle of the Rhine Falls which alos added the favourable possibility to use hydropower. The latter led to the settlement of two companies in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, which developed into major industries: the Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft Neuhausen (SIG) in 1853 and the Aluminium-Industrie-Aktiengesellschaft Neuhausen (AIAG) in 1888.
From the Galgenbuck vantage point – a popular playground and recreation area – these former industries are still visible today in form of two industrial sites, SIG Areal and Rhytech Areal. Neuhausen am Rheinfall is on the verge of change, new living space is being created, both in the city centre and on the two industrial sites, which are currently undergoing a major development process.
Culturally, the Trottentheater’s programme is well known beyond the region. The Trotte which was built in 1556 attracts and delights hundrets of people.
The Rhine Falls attract 1.5 million tourists from all over the world every year. A special experience is the Rhine Falls fireworks “Fire on the Rocks” on the 31st of July as an opening act of the national holiday in Switzerland. A stop in front of the scenery of the Rhine Fall is also part of the fixed tour schedule for cyclists on the Lake Constance cycle path.
New offerings for tourists and visitors are emerging, for example the Smilestone miniature world on the SIG-Areal or the upcomming opening of the project Rhyality Immersive Art Hall.
Rigth next to the Industreiplatz, which leads into the center of Neuhausen, the SIG-Areal is located pefectly to host the 2nd stage of the Tour de Suisse. The association Ortsmarketing Neuhaueen ist responsible for the organisation. We are pleased to welcome the worlds cycling elite to Neuhausen am Rheinfall on 8 June 2020.
