Grenchen – is where clocks tick correctly
Whether on level ground, gravel roads or flow trails – we live for and encourage cycling here in Grenchen. So you’ll find the headquarters of the national cycling federation Swiss Cycling and the Tissot Velodrome, one of the fastest 250 metre tracks in Europe, on the south foot of the Jura, not far from one of the world’s larger BMX and pump tracks.
Quality of life. The local recreational area beckons with a cooling dip in the Aare, the extensive “Witi”, a conservation area of national importance, right up to the 1,400-metre high Grenchen mountains, that can be reached by public transport. All of these entice you with ski slopes, summer and winter hiking trails, bike and cycle routes as well as idyllic mountain inns. Something else you won’t forget is the breath-taking Alpine panorama view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Vibrant. The town has scored with precision and innovation for as long as anyone can remember. Grenchen is one of the most important centres of the Swiss watch industry and an aspiring high-tech location. A number of famous companies in the fields of precision, medical and plastic technology have emerged from Grenchen and today are of international renown. And at Grenchen regional airport, you can even train to become a pilot. Ready for take-off? Nor will you have any problems getting here; choose from two railway stations or a motorway exit.
The sunny side of the Jura. When it comes to culture and architecture, Grenchen has an international charm. The municipality of Grenchen was awarded the Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society for its careful handling of post-war buildings and for upgrading public spaces. The cultural landscape spans international events such as the Triennale Grenchen for the art of printing, the International Music Week with a music award, and a magic convention, right down to the regional Chürbisnacht (pumpkin night), Kulturnacht (culture night) and carnival. Grenchen – rural, but urban for its 18,000 inhabitants.
