Düdingen in brief

Düdingen is located in the German-speaking part of the Canton of Freiburg, right on the language border. With a population of around 7,500 over an area of 30 sq km, with over 3,000 jobs and a well developed infrastructure in the fields of education, sport and culture, Düdingen is one of the largest and most attractive municipalities in the canton. Düdingen is excellently situated in terms of transport on the Bern-Freiburg-Lausanne railway line and with its own exit on the A12 motorway. With its industrial zone of canton-wide significance, covering an area of around 150,000 sq m, Düdingen has great development potential. Gently rolling and varied countryside and fertile soils are the ideal conditions for a flourishing agricultural sector. It is only stone's throw from centre of the town to the countryside, where numerous meadows with protected sites, natural and cultural monuments, chapels and wayside crosses form a cultural landscape rich in variety.

A wide variety of employment

Düdingen is an important commercial centre in Freiburg's Sense region. As part of the Freiburg/Fribourg conurbation, the municipality also benefits from the advantages of a powerful commercial and cultural regional centre. New and extensive industrial and commercial zones offer the opportunity to set up new businesses alongside the numerous existing industrial, commercial and service companies, and to create new jobs. A wide range of shopping facilities and the hotel and restaurant industry round off the scenario. Thanks to the comprehensive portfolio of educational opportunities offered in the schools of Düdingen and the City of Freiburg, there are well trained workers available for every type of occupation and to meet every requirement. The extensive agricultural areas form the basis for the fact that Düdingen is also a regional agricultural centre and the home of some important agricultural organisations. The large grain silos are characteristic features of the Düdingen skyline.

Culture, sport, leisure and tourism

The PODIUM cultural and conference hall, seating 530 and with a stage and orchestra pit, is suitable for a wide variety of cultural events as well as for conventions, seminars and talks. Thanks to the wide range of cultural events, it is an important regional cultural meeting point. The "Bad Bonn" concert venue and its "Bad Bonn Kilbi Festival" are well-known both nationally and internationally.

Several sports halls and multi-purpose halls, a covered ice rink and a covered swimming pool, football pitches, tennis and squash courts and athletics facilities are also to be found here, as are footpaths, cycle paths, a nature trail, a shooting range, a jogging route and a golf course. You can swim, row and take a boat trip on nearby Lake Schiffen, on the banks of which there is also a large campsite. Together with well-known places of interest such as the impressive Magdalena Hermitage, the Grandfey Bridge, with the many highly prized chapels and farmhouses, the magnificent manors and the Düdinger Möser, a local recreational and nature-watching area of national significance, these facilities represent great potential for tourism.
