Facts on Wil

Today, Wil is the financial centre of the region between St. Gallen, Winterthur and Frauenfeld.

Wil's old town is considered the best maintained in eastern Switzerland. Picturesque half-timbered houses, romantic arcades and scenic narrow streets and squares radiate a unique charm.

The large pedestrian zone is right next to the old town which is quiet of traffic noises. It is a unique strolling mile with attractive stores. The cultural life and gastronomy also make the abbot city a cultural metropolic of the region.

With approximately 23,000 residents, Wil is the third largest city in the Canton.

You should not miss these attractions no matter what:

  • The court at Wil – traces of 500 years of the abbot period and just 200 years of brewing time.

  • An old town which is wonderfully preserved.

  • The City Park with pond – a close-by recreational site right in town.

  • The Wil tower – a panoramic platform which is 34 metres high.

Wil and professional cycling

Alex Zülle. The former emblem of Swiss cycling is from Wil and now lives in near-by Zuckenriet. Alex Zülle started his pro career in 1991. The absolute highlights were the two victories of the Vuelta España (1996 and 1997) and second place at Tour de France 1995. He became world champion a year later in time trial.

Also the Wil family company Camion Transport AG combines a lot with cycling. The transport and logistics specialist will be accompanying the Tour de Suisse 2015 all across Switzerland for the tenth time. This logistics partnership which has existed for so many years will also continue in the years to come.
