With an impressive solo attack just a few kilometres from the finish Marlen Reusser (Movistar Team) claimed overall victory at the Tour de Suisse Women 2025. This second stage win of the Tour secured her place at the top of the General Classification for the second time since 2023.
Marlen Reusser has been wearing the yellow jersey since the first stage, and she defended it again today with a strong performance against last year’s winner Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez). They rode together in the peloton for a long time today on the 129 kilometre circuit around Küssnacht am Rigi. The gap in General Classification between the two was just 3 seconds heading into the stage.
In the first part of this stage, several riders got away, including a joint breakaway by Henrietta Christie (EF-Oatly-Cannondale), Steffi Häberlin (Team SD Worx – Protime) and Julia Borgström (AG Insurance – Soudal Team). Thanks to this effort, the Swiss rider Steffi Häberlin was recognised at the victory ceremony – she was voted the most combative rider by TV viewers.
A show of strength secures victory
All would be clear by the second climb to Michaelskreuz at the latest: the favourites would battle for the win between them. Reusser showed her dominance early on, setting the pace on the steep climb and reaching the summit first – in front of Vollering and a few other riders. Then with around 8 kilometres to go, she launched a crucial attack. Vollering later said in an interview that she knew this attack was coming but simply didn’t have the legs to react to it today. Reusser maintained the distance and was able to celebrate her win over the last few metres.
Katarzyna Niewiadoma (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) sprinted for second place behind her, with Demi Vollering in third. In the General Classification, however, Vollering remained second ahead of Niewiadoma, who rounded off the podium in third place.
