The Tour de Suisse is one of the most important cycling races in the world. Yet it aims to be more than just a sporting highlight: by 2027, CO₂ emissions are to be reduced by 50 percent – with the goal of being climate-neutral by 2030. To achieve this, the tour is relying on various initiatives and measures in conjunction with a wide range of target groups. The strategy takes into account the event organisation and suppliers, sponsors, fans, Host Cities and the participating professional Teams. “We want to become the most sustainable cycling race in the world,” says Mario Klaus, the person responsible for this issue at the Tour de Suisse.
Sustainability Integral to the Corporate Strategy
As the main sponsor of the Tour de Suisse, Primeo Energie supports these ambitions not only financially, but also in terms of content. After all, sustainability is also a top priority for the energy supplier from Münchenstein. Step by step, the company is implementing measures to advance energy transformation.
These include, for example, decarbonization of the heat supply, the construction of battery storage systems and the expansion of renewable energies. “Sustainability and climate protection are key components of our corporate strategy,” says Stefan Frehner, Head of Sustainability at Primeo Energie and himself an enthusiastic cyclist. “It is therefore great to see that the partnership with the Tour de Suisse is continuing in the area of sustainability.”
Recognition for the Most Sustainable Team
A special sustainability highlight of the Tour de Suisse is the Sustainability Award, which will be presented for the second time this year – sponsored by Primeo Energie. The award is presented by the organisers to the Team that has excelled in the area of sustainability. In 2024 the award went to Team Movistar, which impressed with its comprehensive sustainability strategy and the integration of the entire team in environmental activities.
Making Sustainability Tangible
Primeo Energie is not only involved in professional sport, but also in sustainability education: At the Primeo Energie Kosmos Science and Experience Centre in Münchenstein, young people in particular are made aware of how to use energy consciously and sustainably.
