Today’s memorial ride on the last 20 kilometers of stage 6 was very touching for the entire Tour de Suisse organization. “With this commemorative ride and the finish in Oberwil-Lieli, we were able to create a dignified setting in honor of Gino,” says Olivier Senn, director of the Tour de Suisse. Gino Mäder will be remembered by the cycling world as a happy and cosmopolitan human being. Having to say goodbye to him is not easy. Olivier Senn says: “Today was the worst day of my life. Continuation of the Tour de Suisse
After consultation with the teams and riders as well as the entire staff of the Tour de Suisse, it was decided by the management to continue the Tour de Suisse of the men. In addition to the teams and riders, Gino Mäder’s family is also in favor of continuing the Tour de Suisse. “After consultation with all the people involved, we as the management stand united behind this decision and are trying to hold the last two stages of the men’s race in an appropriate setting,” says Tour Director Olivier Senn.
It is already certain that Team Bahrain Victorious will withdraw from the Tour de Suisse and will not compete tomorrow.
The start of the Tour de Suisse Women will also go ahead.
On Saturday, June 17, the 3rd edition of the Tour de Suisse Women will start in Weinfelden. The start of the first stage will take place as planned and will be conducted in race mode. “The women and all the teams deserve a Tour de Suisse Women. We are convinced that we can offer the women riders a professional and safe race,” explains Olivier Senn.
